If Travis Kelce decides to continue his legendary playing career in 2025, the Kansas City Chiefs already know what kind of role they want him to have on the offense.

Travis Kelce is still mulling over his future in football, with retirement a legitimate possibility following the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. The 35-year-old is coming off a down season in which he caught 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns.

Speaking on The Fan 96.5, The Athletic’s Nate Taylor reported that the Chiefs would reduce Travis Kelce’s role on offense if he were to return in 2025. Head coach Andy Reid would want him to be less of a centerpiece and more of a supportive role player.

Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Chiefs last offseason, suggesting that he would at least play through his age-46 season. But that’s no longer a guarantee, and Chiefs fans just have to wait and see what decision he makes.

🚨 UPDATE 🚨

The #Chiefs want tight end Travis Kelce to return for one more season. However, he would have to be okay with not being the focal point of the offense and be more of a role player.

If this is it for Kelce, he’d retire as a 10-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion with 1,004 receptions for 12,151 yards and 77 touchdowns. He’ll also reach the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Chiefs Would Need To Move Quickly To Travis Kelce

If the Chiefs end up losing Kelce to retirement, GM Brett Veach would have to act quickly to find a replacement. Aside from Rashee Rice, Kansas City doesn’t have any other proven game-changing weapons to complement Patrick Mahomes on offense.
