Report: Cowboys set to interview Tashard Choice for their coaching staff

We will see what the Cowboys do with their running backs coach role.

After the Dallas Cowboys ironed out most of their coaching vacancies on the defensive side of the ball this week, their attention has shifted to the other side. The team hired Klayton Adams as offensive coordinator, but could continue with adding someone to the staff as the running backs coach.

According to multiple reports, the Cowboys will interview Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice today for the same position. Choice should be a familiar name to Cowboys fans, having spent the first part of his NFL career in Dallas.

In January, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram mentioned Choice and former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray as two names to watch for Dallas's running backs coaching position. Choice would be the obvious... uh,choice... for the position, considering the talent he’s helped recruit and develop at Texas.

Over the last two seasons, Texas has sent four top running backs to the NFL: Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, Jonathon Brooks, and Keilan Robinson. Choice directly developed them into star players at the college level, which has carried over into their professional careers.

Before his time at Texas, Choice worked at his alma mater, Georgia Tech, where he worked with Jahmyr Gibbs and Jordan Mason, who have also had successful starts to their NFL careers.

The Cowboys could boost their running game after last season's inconsistent showing despite Rico Dowdle’s 1,000-yard rushing season. With Adams already in the fold as offensive coordinator, adding Choice to the mix would be a massive loss for Texas while being a home run for the Cowboys.
