The longtime defensive backs coach would bring a wealth of coaching experience to the Colts secondary—if hired.

According to CBS Sports Matt Zenitz, the Indianapolis Colts are targeting former New York Giants veteran defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson for a role on their revamped defensive coaching staff under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo:

The 55-year-old veteran coach served as the Giants defensive backs coach for the past 5 seasons (2020-24)—before he and the team agreed to mutually part ways this past January.

Prior to his latest coaching stint, Henderson had a wealth of pro experience as a defensive assistant—having served as the defensive passing game coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons (2016-19); and defensive backs coach for the Dallas Cowboys (2012-15), Cleveland Browns (2009-11), New York Jets (2008), and assistant defensive backs coach for the Jets (2007).

The Colts don’t appear to currently have a defensive backs coach—as the team parted ways with Ron Milus at season’s end, who was brought over and left with Gus Bradley’s recent departure (and is now the new defensive backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars).

That could be a logical Colts’ coaching job for the longtime NFL defensive backs coach. However, he’s also served as a defensive passing game coordinator in the recent past—including last season with the Giants.

Whatever the case, it appears as though that Anarumo is starting to make his thumbprint felt on a tweaked Colts’ defensive coaching staff headed into the 2025 offseason.
