The former Cowboys and Packers head coach will meet with the Bears.

Earlier today, the Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy mutually decided they would not negotiate a new contract. His current deal expires on Tuesday at midnight, but barring an unexpected change of heart, McCarthy will be free to pursue other coaching opportunities after spending the last five years in Dallas.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that McCarthy has an interview scheduled with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday. The Bears had requested an interview with him last week, but at the time, the request was denied.

The Cowboys were a disappointing 7-10 in 2024, but they were also without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for half the season.

During his coaching career, the 61-year-old McCarthy is 174-112-2 (.608) in the regular season and 11-11 in the postseason, including a Super Bowl championship with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. In 18 years as a head coach, he’s only had a losing season five times.

McCarthy is also expected to set up an interview with the New Orleans Saints this week.
