Following a new report this weekend, the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens have been linked by a notable NFL insider to what would be the biggest trade before next month’s deadline.
The Chargers and Ravens are in very different places heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, but they are both equally struggling right now. After getting off to a red-hot 3-0 start, LA has surprisingly lost two straight, including one to a then-winless New York Giants team.
As for Baltimore, they wish they could be in the same situation as the 3-2 Chargers. They entered the season as a serious Super Bowl contender and have been utterly decimated by injuries, and head into Sunday with a 1-4 record. One more loss — which is very likely with Lamar Jackson expected to be out — would probably take their playoff hopes to the point of no return.
That is why Pro Football Talk insider Mike Florio offered up a wild but not impossible trade idea between the two teams on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport revealed the Chargers have been reaching out to teams around the league in search of running back help. LA is a bit desperate because they have lost Najee Harris for the season, and first-round rookie Omarion Hampton could be out for the next month.
Well, Florio had an interesting idea. With the Chargers being a potential Super Bowl threat and having a huge hole in their backfield, maybe the Ravens could be a perfect trade partner for a blockbuster trade if they take another loss in Week 6.
“Then there’s Derrick Henry. If the Ravens, who have a pipeline to the Chargers via the presence of former Baltimore exec Joe Hortiz as GM and the Jim Harbaugh connection at coach, are ready to fold the tents on 2025, the Ravens could choose to get value for Henry and pivot to Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell,” he wrote.
It would seem stunning for the Ravens to trade Henry after being so good for them since he arrived last year. However, Baltimore is a smart, forward-thinking organization. They would love to keep the five-time Pro Bowler, but if they could get a really good return for him in a trade, it makes sense to ponder such an idea.
The Chargers may be desperate enough to give up a pick in the second round and more for the future Hall of Famer. It would give the Ravens a premium draft pick in 2026 and get his money off the books for the next two years. Since he is signed for two more seasons, LA could take a couple more runs at the AFC Championship and Super Bowl with the legendary RB. A trade between them is very possible.
