The team has reportedly confirmed the release of S Juan Thornhill
The Cleveland Browns have reportedly confirmed the release of S Juan Thornhill after a short 22-game career with the team.
He was one of the Browns’ bigger free-agent signings of 2023 and was projected to fill a huge role in the secondary following John Johnson III’s previously underwhelming performance at free safety.
Thornhill started every game of his Cleveland tenure when healthy, which ultimately ended up being his downfall during his time in Northeast Ohio. He was never able to stay on the field, and when he was, he didn’t look like the same player that he was during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He amassed 103 total tackles, 1 TFL, and 4 pass deflections as a Cleveland Brown.
Below are the salary cap ramifications of the Thornhill release:
Though he wasn’t one of the team’s best players in the secondary, his departure opens up a rather large hole at free safety. It’ll be interesting to see Cleveland’s plans at that spot going forward, specifically when it comes to other players on the roster like Ronnie Hickman.
Hickman’s played very well in a rotational, open-field role over the past two seasons.
