The Broncos will spend some time with the top back in the draft.
According to The Draft Network’s NFL Draft analyst Ryan Fowler, the Denver Broncos are among the teams who are scheduled to have a formal meeting with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Teams can meet formally with up to 45 prospects while at the Combine for roughly 20 minutes each. During this process, teams get to know the players, ask them questions, and usually set up upcoming visits/workouts.
The other teams with interviews scheduled with Jeanty are the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and New Orleans Saints. The Broncos currently own the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and will face competition if they want to draft Jeanty.
Jeanty is coming off a Heisman-worthy performance this past season for the Boise State Broncos. He had 374 carries for 2,601 yards, and 29 rushing touchdowns while adding 23 receptions for 138 yards and 1 touchdown. He is now the top running back in the 2025 NFL Draft and has been a popular pick for the Broncos in mock drafts thus far.
As we know, the Broncos struggled last season to run the ball and have a major need at running back this offseason. Javonte Williams is a free agent and is unlikely to return to the team, Jaleel McLaughlin has size limitations, and rookie Audric Estime had a disappointing rookie season. Adding a back like Jeanty to the Broncos backfield would give quarterback Bo Nix a much-needed weapon in the run game.
The Broncos need to improve their run game this offseason and I expect them to visit with multiple backs throughout the Combine and moving forward. Right now, it appears Jeanty is unlikely to make it to the 20th overall pick, but the Broncos will continue to do their due diligenceBronco on him and the rest of the running backs in this draft class.
