Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly interested in becoming the part-owner of a historic NFL franchise.

Last week, it was reported that New York Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch (their families each own 50 percent of the franchise) are looking to sell 10 percent of the football team. In their most recent valuations, Forbes estimated the franchise’s worth at $7.3 billion.

According to a report from TMZ Sports, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and business partner Meyer Orbach are interested in purchasing the Giants’ minority stake. The outlet reports that they’re working on submitting an offer in the vicinity of $700 million:

“Floyd Mayweather wants to own the NY Giants…and we’re told the 50-0 boxing legend is leading a group gunning to buy a 10% stake in the 4x Super Bowl-winning franchise!

TMZ Sports has learned that 47-year-old Mayweather and his business partner, prominent real estate magnate, Meyer Orbach, are putting together an offer. There will likely be another wealthy investor added to the team, per what we are being told from our sources.

We’re told the offer will be in the neighborhood of $700 million…and the plan is to submit the proposal soon. We’re told TBE has already moved $200 million into an escrow account.”

Orbach told TMZ Sports that he’s eyeing ownership of sports teams with business partners but wouldn’t provide further clarity on the matter.

Floyd Mayweather’s net worth is reported to be around $400 million. The soon-to-be 48-year-old owns a perfect 50-0 career boxing record, with 27 of them coming via knockout. His last professional fight was a victory over UFC star Conor McGregor on Aug. 26, 2017.

There are few things safer to invest in than professional sports teams, which continue to grow in value each year. The only NFL teams that Forbes valued above the Giants are the Dallas Cowboys ($10.1 billion), Los Angeles Rams ($7.6 billion) and New England Patriots ($7.4 billion).

Floyd Mayweather Looks To Join List Of Athletes To Become A Sports Owner

There’s no shortage of prominent athletes (retired and active) who hold ownership stakes in pro sports teams. Retired quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady is part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Las Vegas Raiders.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes holds stakes in the Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas and Kansas City Current. As a partner in the Fenway Sports Group, LeBron James is also a part owner of the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool FC and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Time will tell if “Money” Mayweather soon joins that group.
