Fans will reportedly receive a behind-the-scenes look at Bill Belichick’s shift to college football.
The legendary New England Patriots head coach surprisingly accepted a new job with the University of North Carolina. Belichick will coach college for the first time after nearly five decades on NFL sidelines.
Those curious to see how Belichick does his new job may get a chance to watch his first year unfold beyond the games. Hulu is scheduled to film a documentary series on Belichick’s Tar Heels, according to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports.
Hulu has yet to confirm the new docuseries, but Glasspiegel said the streaming service has already commenced production while finalizing an agreement.
Belichick appeared to have another documentary deal in place earlier this year. UNC was reportedly slated to be featured on “Hard Knocks,” but the arrangement fell through in March. Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, allegedly factored into the nixed collaboration.
According to The Athletic’s Katherine Rosman, Hudson “demanded” creative control and ownership of the show days before HBO was scheduled to announce its UNC series. Rosman also reported in May that Hudson was simultaneously negotiating a similar series with EverWonder Studio, the production company overseeing the Hulu project.
Allowing access to camera crews feels out of character for Belichick. “Hard Knocks” never chronicled his Patriots, and the six-time Super Bowl champion wasn’t exactly a media magnet during his iconic 24-year run.
Belichick is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished coaches in NFL history, but college provides an entirely new array of challenges to navigate. How will the 73-year-old connect with younger players and navigate the NIL era? Will the documentary show him on the recruiting trail?
It will be fascinating to learn more about the reported Hulu docuseries before Belichick makes his college debut against TCU on Sept. 1.
