Bears head coach Ben Johnson adds another assistant to his offensive coaching staff.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chicago Bears are hiring former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor as their passing game coordinator.
The 37-year-old Taylor had been the Jags’ offensive coordinator for the last three seasons with head coach Doug Pederson. Before that, he served as the senior offensive assistant for Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts, and from 2013 to 2020, he worked with the Philadelphia Eagles, first for Chip Kelly, and then he remained on staff for Pederson.
His first year in Jacksonville featured a top-ten offense, with him and Pederson splitting play-calling responsibilities. In 2023, Taylor took over as a full-time playcaller, and the offense declined. It also struggled last year, but they were without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence for seven games. However, after speaking with some people who follow the Jags closely, the general consensus is that Taylor’s play-calling was not very good.
Taylor has a Super Bowl ring from Philadelphia’s 2017 run when he was their offensive quality control/assistant quarterbacks coach, and he’s credited with bringing the Philly Special trick play to the coaching staff.
He now joins head coach Ben Johnson’s offensive staff, along with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, assistant head coach/wide receivers Antwaan Randle El, and QB Coach J.T. Barrett.
