The San Francisco 49ers have some clarity at defensive coordinator, as Robert Saleh appears to be out of the running for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan initially said Nick Sorensen would be under consideration for the team’s vacant special teams coordinator spot, but there hasn’t been much movement on that front.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco tweeted the 49ers interviewed an external candidate with plenty of experience. Brant Boyer, who has been the New York Jets special teams coordinator since 2016.

The Jets were one of the worst special teams using DVOA from Week 1-8. But From Week 9-14, the Jets were No. 1 in the NFL. So, toward the second half of the season, they From Week 1 to 8, the only trended in the right direction but moved all t. According to Maiocco, Sorensen is no longer in the running for the 49ers' special teams coordinator position and is also not expected to return to the team in 2025. It had to be a difficult conversation to have, but Sorensen likely wanted a fresh start and another opportunity to either be a coordinator or work on defense.
