NFL kickers rarely get the credit they deserve. They are often the scapegoats in a loss where they miss kicks and as field goal kickers they are expected to put it through the uprights 100% of the time or face consequences from the front office.

Below are the 17 longest field goals in NFL history. The list includes every field goal from 62 yards and further, including Justin Tucker’s NFL record for the longest field goal of all-time at 66 yards.

For 43 long years, New Orleans Saints kicker Tom Dempsey held the NFL record for the longest field goal ever at 63 yards. It wasn’t until 2013 that Dempsey’s record was broken and since then the record has been changed a few times.

Below are the 17 longest field goals in NFL history, with multiple kickers tied at 62 and 63 yards, but plenty of others below. How many do you remember seeing in person?

62 yards: Matt Prater, 2023

In Week 3 of the 2023 NFL season, Arizona Cardinals kicker Matt Prater kicked a 62-yard field goal against the Dallas Cowboys and earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his field goal. It was just 4 yards off the all-time record.

At the time, it was the third kick of Matt Prater’s career of 60 or more yards and it earned him his 15th Special Teams Player of the Week honor. 62 yards: Harrison Butker, 2022

During Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked the longest field goal of his career, 62 yards, against the Buffalo Bills. He was able to boot his 62-yarder at home in Arrowhead Stadium against the Buffalo Bills.

62 yards: Matt Prater, 2021

Arizona Cardinals kicker Matt Prater holds the NFL record for the most field goals made over 50 yards with 81. He also holds the NFL record for the most extra points in a season, 75. His crowning achievement was his 62-yarder in 2021, his first season with the Arizona Cardinals, he kicked a 62-yarder against the Minnesota Vikings to take a 24-23 lead going into halftime. Arizona would go on to win 33-34 with each team’s kicker exchanging a FG in the 4th.
