Reacts Results: The bandwagon doesn’t stop here

Last week we decided to get mildly introspective around here by asking when you, our loyal readers, became fans of the Carolina Panthers. The somewhat surprising result of that survey was that 90% of y’all have been fans since before the Panthers drafted Cam Newton.

We can look at 74% of y’all having been around since the beginning (or near enough) a couple of different ways. The long and short of it probably comes down to two factors: first, the Panthers haven’t won consistently enough to pry a lot of fans away from other teams or generate many new ones; and second, kids don’t know how to read anymore.

For our part, Cat Scratch Reader is a purely written-word media outlet with little social media presence. We like it that way, even if our actual team here at CSR is more old-at-heart than actually-old.

Still, only 6% of our readers coming from the Cam Newton Era doesn’t seem quite right. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that maybe only the truly long-in-the-tooth fans stick around for the deep offseason. We’ll test that hypothesis by running this survey again sometime during the season to see if the children have only seasonal literacy skills and attention spans.
