The New York Jets have signed kicker Harrison Mevis to their roster. Mevis played in the UFL last season and played college football at the University of Missouri from 2020 to 2023.
Harrison Mevis earned notoriety during his time at the University of Missouri due to his rotund frame for a kicker as he clocked in at 6-0, 242-pound, earning him the nickname the ‘Thiccer Kicker.’
Mevis is no scrub, either, as he made 83% of his field goals (89 of 106 field goals) during his time at the University of Missouri and also still holds the record for the longest field goal made by an SEC kicker at 61-yards, which he drilled as a game-winner against Kansas State during his senior season in 2023.

The Thiccer Kicker did get a previous crack in the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024, as he was signed by the Carolina Panthers on May 10 before eventually being released on August 11. In December 2024, Mevis signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL.
With the Birmingham Stallions last season, Mevis made 20 of 21 attempted field goals (95%), with a long of 54 yards. Mevis has 60 points scored last year, the third most in the UFL.
Former University of Missouri quarterback Brady Cook, who played with Mevis at the school from 2020 to 2023 and was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent earlier this spring, took to social media to celebrate the news.

Former Mizzou offensive tackle Armand Membou, who was selected by Gang Green with the 7th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, also took to Twitter to react to the news of Mevis signing with the team, making him the third Tiger to join the Jets this season.

The New York Jets and their growing band of former Mizzou Tigers will open their 2025 season against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium.
