Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss his third straight game Sunday due to his hamstring injury, the team announced on Saturday. However, an unusual occurrence happened when Baltimore also downgraded Jackson from a full practice participant to limited at Friday’s practice.

On the heels of this week’s two federal indictments relating to illegal gambling conspiracies involving NBA players and coaches, the Ravens not being clear on Jackson’s injury status certainly raised eyebrows.

On Saturday afternoon, the Ravens explained their decision in a statement.

“Lamar Jackson was present for and participated fully in our entire practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the Bears,” the Ravens said. “Upon further evaluation and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn’t take starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation.”

The Ravens’ reasoning does not match with what the NFL’s injury reporting policy states. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network points out that it specifically covers situations like Jackson’s.

An NFL spokesman told Jamison Hensley of ESPN that the league will investigate the Ravens changing of Jackson’s practice participation: “The league will look into this. The league reviews any matter involving a change to a player’s status.”

Here is the full language of the NFL’s injury reporting policy, which specifically covers situations like Lamar Jackson’s:

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jackson is expected to return from his hamstring injury Thursday night in Miami versus the Dolphins.

Schefter notes that Jackson just was not ready to play with a hamstring injury that sidelined him two previous games, especially with another game on a short week Thursday night in Miami.

With Jackson out, Ravens QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is set to start against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
