The Baltimore Ravens will interview Detroit Lions assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery for their offensive coordinator job, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Montgomery has been on Dan Campbell’s staff for the past three seasons in senior roles.
Montgomery, 47, was the wide receivers coach for the Steelers under Mike Tomlin from 2010-12. He coached Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders, Antwaan Randle El, Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery during his time in Pittsburgh. He played a key role in developing Wallace, Sanders and Brown.
After his tenure with the Steelers, Montgomery returned to his alma mater, Duke, for a three-year stint as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. Montgomery was then the head coach at East Carolina from 2016-18 and the offensive coordinator at Maryland from 2019-20.
From there, Montgomery returned to the NFL, first as running backs coach with the Indianapolis Colts from 2021-22 and then moved to the Lions staff in 2023, taking over for Duce Staley who left for the same position with the Carolina Panthers.
Montgomery is a highly respected coach on the Lions staff. He has played a key part in developing running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery and wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
“Scottie understands this game very well, top to bottom—pass game, protection, run game. He’s a huge asset for us and for me,” head coach Dan Campbell said of Montgomery back in October.
The Ravens hired Jessee Minter as their next head coach last week.
“I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens,” Minter said in a statement posted by the team. “This is an organization where values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played. My family and I are thrilled to join the Ravens flock, and we can’t wait to make the fans, the great city of Baltimore and Maryland proud.”
