Baltimore Ravens linebacker Teddye Buchanan, the team’s second-leading tackler, tore his ACL during Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed on Monday. Buchanan suffered the injury while covering a punt in the first half. It was a non-contact injury where his leg buckled and he dropped to the ground.
Losing Buchanan for the season is a big loss for the Ravens’ defense. The rookie out of California was playing at a high level, recording 93 tackles, five tackles for loss, one forced fumble and a half-sack.
In the Steelers’ Week 14 win over the Ravens, Buchanan had four tackles, one of which went for a loss, on 41 defensive snaps.
Trenton Simpson, a Ravens’ third-round pick in 2023, will replace Buchanan at linebacker opposite of Roquan Smith.
Harbaugh said Simpson has played well and he’s not worried about him at all stepping in for Buchanan.
The Baltimore Ravens routed the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-0, on Sunday at Paycor Stadium. With the win, the Ravens improved to 7-7, while the Bengals dropped to 4-10 and are eliminated from playoff contention.
With frigid 10 degree weather in Cincinnati, the Ravens relied on their rushing attack and defense to take down Cincinnati. Lamar Jackson completed 8 of 12 pass attempts (66.7%) for 150 yards with two touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 114.6.
Jackson had a 30-yard touchdown pass to running back Rasheen Ali and a 28-yard touchdown to Zay Flowers. Both TDs came in the first half. Tyler Loop kicked a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter and outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy closed things out with an interception that he handed off to safety Alohi Gilman for an 84-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Running back Derrick Henry led the Ravens on the ground, rushing for 100 yards on 11 carries (9.1 average).
The Steelers and Ravens appear to be on a collision course for the AFC North title. It could come down to the Week 18 game at Acrisure Stadium to decide who will win the division.
The Steelers (7-6) play the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Pittsburgh then plays at Detroit and at Cleveland. The Ravens play the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football next week and then at Green Bay on Saturday night (Dec. 27).
