Cooper Rush started again at quarterback but was replaced by Tyler Huntley in the fourth quarter. Rush played 53 snaps before Huntley took over for the final 25 offensive plays. The Ravens’ starting offensive line was the same, but Ronnie Stanley (25 snaps) was replaced by Joseph Noteboom (55 snaps) at left tackle again after exiting early with an ankle injury.
As a whole, the Ravens played significantly more offensive snaps than last week. They ran for almost 200 yards and had the ball for most of the second half trailing by 14 points, but were unable to turn time of possession into points. At tight end, Isaiah Likely played a season-high 81% of snaps and two more than Mark Andrews. Charlie Kolar’s playing time decreased to 36% of snaps — 28 total.
Despite being questionable before the game with a shoulder injury, Zay Flowers played all but seven snaps on offense (71 total). No other wide receiver came close to being on the field as much as him. Rashod Bateman played only 44 snaps with one reception, while Deandre Hopkins had two catches during his 26 snaps. Tylan Wallace and LaJohntay Wester combined for nine snaps.
Derrick Henry played 38 snaps and rushed 24 times for 122 yards, his most productive outing since the regular season opener. Closely behind him was Justice Hill with 35 snaps, who was on the field a lot in hurry-up offense mode late in the game with the Ravens trailing. Rasheen Ali and Keaton Mitchell each played only a small handful of snaps.
Two defenders, both rookies, played 100% of snaps for a second straight week — Malaki Starks and Teddye Buchanan. Starks had an every-down role again despite the return of Kyle Hamilton (52 snaps) and addition of veteran safety Alohi Gilman. Gilman played 44 snaps (83%) in his debut, quickly acclimating himself on the team’s defense.
Alongside Buchanan, Trenton Simpson started again and played a high snap count (94%). Both linebackers had nine tackles, tied for the team-lead, and added a mix of half sacks, pass breakups, and quarterback hits. In addition to Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey returned from injury and played 45 snaps — second amongst all cornerbacks behind Nate Wiggins (50 snaps).
The only other cornerback to play any snaps was T.J. Tampa, who saw just 11 reps. Jaire Alexander was active but did not take the field at all. The Ravens opted to play a lot of three-safety looks with Starks, Hamilton, and Gilman on the field together, with Hamilton occupying the nickel and Humphrey moving outside.
In the defense’s first game without Odafe Oweh in the mix, Edge rusher Tavius Robinson suffered a foot injury after 17 snaps — leading to David Ojabo seeing an uptick in playing time (22 snaps). Mike Green played 77% of defensive snaps while Kyle Van Noy played 29 snaps. It turned out that Robinson’s foot injury was a fracture, so his absence will be extended. An already thin outside...
