In search of some camp bodies with veteran special teams potential, the Ravens hosted a workout with seven players today. Only one of those players landed a contract from the tryout as veteran wideout Chris Moore will reunite with the team that drafted him 10 years ago, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Moore was one of four receivers auditioning in Baltimore today alongside fellow veterans Sterling Shepard and Dante Pettis and free agent Casey Washington, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. Moore was drafted by the Ravens in 2016 in the fourth round out of Cincinnati. He was never able to establish much of a role on the team’s offense during his time in Baltimore. Decent production with four starts midway through his sophomore campaign hinted at a potential breakout, but Moore was ultimately moved to more of a special teams role.
Leaving Baltimore after five years, Moore began to show decent production with the Texans and Titans notching career highs in Houston for receptions (48) and receiving yards (548) in 2022 then averaging a career-high 19.3 yards per reception for 424 yards on the Titans the next season. He only appeared in four games in 2024 but rebounded with five starts in 14 games on the Commanders last year.
Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic asserted that, if Moore makes the eventual 53-man roster, it would be in a rotation/special teams role; that was the role each wideout was auditioning for. Per Zrebiec, the Ravens “weren’t in the market” for one of the available WR1 or WR2 options available in free agency. The team expects Zay Flowers to continue delivering in the WR1 role, and they believe Rashod Bateman can bounce back to have production more like his 2024 campaign than last year’s.
Rather than go the Odell Beckham Jr. or DeAndre Hopkins route again, Baltimore intends to give its younger recent draft picks — Devontez Walker, Elijah Sarratt, Ja’Kobi Lane, and LaJohntay Wester — a chance to step into supplementary roles in 2026. After watching injuries dog Bateman for a decent chunk of the season last year, Moore’s addition should allow the offense to run smoothly even with a lighter workload for Bateman throughout the summer.
Zrebiec believes this same logic could lead the team to sign a veteran offensive tackle for camp, as well. Of the seven tryout players in attendance today, two — Geron Christian and Hakeem Adeniji — fit the bill. A former third-round pick out of Louisville, Christian failed to ever develop into a full-time starting role, but he’s started 25 of 63 game appearances over eight years in the league. Adeniji’s path has been similar with fewer years. He started 15 of 39 games with the Bengals but has only seen one start in 16 games over the last three years.
Either player would be a huge help in keeping the first-team bookends off the field for the preseason, and if they can prove to be of some value in the opportunities given, their experience...
