Ravens rookie scouting report: restocking the trenches with Rayshaun Benny
Baltimore Beatdown Baltimore Beatdown

One month ago, Yuri (@Yuri_Ravens) published his first scouting report for the Ravens’ 2026 draft class. Now, he’s completed the gauntlet with seventh-round pick (No. 250 overall) and Michigan defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny. Here are his first 10(!) reports followed by his analysis of Benny:

Short/Long-Term Projection

With uncertainty surrounding Nnamdi Madubuike and Broderick Washington, the Ravens needed added depth along the interior defensive line. In the short term, Benny projects as a rotational run defender who can provide interior pocket push. Long term, he profiles as a potential replacement for Washington as a key rotational piece on the defensive front.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Benny wins as a pass rusher primarily through a powerful bull rush, paired with good athleticism, leverage, and effective extension utilizing his 33-inch arms. Against the run, he consistently stacks, peeks, and maintains gap integrity, showing reliable two-gap ability. He also flashes decent get-off, allowing him to get skinny and work through zone run concepts effectively.

Benny can play high at times and lacks consistent pad level, allowing offensive linemen to get into his chest and generate movement. As a pass rusher, he has yet to show a consistently effective counter outside of his bull rush. While he is a solid overall athlete, he does not possess elite athletic traits, which may limit his long-term upside.

Scheme Fit

Benny projects as a strong scheme fit for the Ravens, given his prior experience playing in HC Jesse Minter’s defensive system. He is best utilized in a 2i alignment, where his ability to control the line of scrimmage and maintain gap integrity can be maximized. His presence inside would help keep linebackers like Roquan Smith, Simpson, and Teddye “clean,” allowing them clearer run fits and better angles to pursue the ball carrier.

Intangibles

Benny is a tough, physical defensive lineman who plays with discipline and consistent effort. A former top high school recruit who was ranked as the No. 23 offensive tackle in the nation, he brings a unique understanding of leverage and trench play from both sides of the ball. Benny is an assignment-sound defender with a high motor, something that consistently showed up during Senior Bowl practices. He also has familiarity with Ravens defensive line coach Lou Esposito, which could ease his transition into the system. Additionally, Benny was ranked among our top 100 players in the 2026 draft class, reflecting both his talent and long-term potential.
