The Baltimore Ravens are fighting their way back to the top of the AFC North this season, and the path got a little bit easier for them this offseason. In a shocking June 1 move, the Cleveland Browns traded star pass rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for a package centered around Jared Verse.

Understandably, the other three teams in the division will be thrilled that they don’t have to play against Garrett twice a year anymore. That is especially true for the Ravens, who have been terrorized by the best defensive player in football more than a few times during his career.

On Wednesday at mandatory minicamp, star quarterback Lamar Jackson couldn’t contain his excitement about Garrett being out of the AFC North, while also acknowledging the challenge that Verse is going to provide in the future with the Browns.

“(Verse) is good too!” Jackson said. “He good too. Shouts out to him. Shouts out to Myles, congratulations on that. But yes! That’s awesome.”

Garrett has had success against just about everybody that he has come up against during his career, but he has had an especially easy time racking up stats against the Ravens. In 16 games against Baltimore, Garrett has recorded 14 sacks, including a four-sack effort in the most recent meeting between the two teams in November.

Now, Garrett is off to terrorize the NFC West on a Rams defense that should be excellent this season. With Verse as arguably the best player on Chris Shula’s unit, Los Angeles very nearly made a trip to the Super Bowl last season. With Garrett leading the way, there’s no telling how good that group will be.

On the Ravens’ side, Jackson will be focused on getting back to his MVP form after a frustrating 2025 season that saw him struggle with injuries throughout the fall. If he can do that and new head coach Jesse Minter can revamp the defense, this Ravens team should have little trouble rising above the pack in the division this season.
