Jack Callis, the Baltimore Ravens fan who went viral for viciously attacking two Washington Commanders after a Week 6 game, has received a rather light sentence for his crimes.
After the Ravens defeated the Commanders 30-23 at M&T Bank Stadium on Oct. 13, disturbing video footage emerged of Jack Callis assaulting two innocent Washington supporters for no reason at all.
Completely unprovoked by the Washington fans, Callis approached and delivered a series of vicious punches to them. He was quickly identified, arrested and fired from his job as an insurance salesman.
Well, this isn’t a case of the punishment fitting the crime. Per Dylan Segelbaum of the Baltimore Banner, Jack Callis pleaded guilty to second-degree assault charges and won’t face any more time in prison if he completes the following guidelines:
“As part of the plea agreement, Callis must successfully complete inpatient treatment, attend intensive outpatient treatment while living in a recovery house, go to 90 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in 90 days, and perform 100 hours of community service in Baltimore. He must pay more than $4,660 in restitution to one of the victims.
When Callis fulfills those conditions, his sentence can be shortened to three years’ supervised probation.”

Considering that Callis faced up to 55 years in jail, this sentence has to be considered a victory for him and his attorneys. The sentence is bound to upset many, but the guidelines implemented by the courts give him a simple choice: Either learn from it, change for the better and improve his life, or go to jail.
Per Segelbaum, Baltimore Circuit Judge Charles H. Dorsey warned Callis that a probation violation may result in being sentenced for the entirety of the suspended time. The judge told Callis, “I don’t want to see you reoffend again.”
