Ravens, Commanders mutually cancel joint practice

The Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders have mutually cancelled their joint practice originally scheduled for Aug. 21.

“Recognizing the logistical challenges – with our teams’ previous games scheduled on different days – and the added strain on players heading into a short week, the Ravens and Commanders mutually agreed to no longer hold a joint practice next week. Instead, we will concentrate on preparing for our upcoming preseason matchup,” the Ravens said in a statement on Thursday.

The Ravens are scheduled to play the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas. The Commanders are scheduled to play at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn shared disappointment for having to chancel the joint practice.

“Sometimes just schedules don’t sync up as it hits,” Quinn said. “I was visiting with John last night. … We’re bummed. We got a lot of respect for them and were looking forward them.”

Joint practices have been a means for the Ravens to get real reps for the starting unit as they don’t play much — if at all — in the preseason. And on Wednesday, Head Coach John Harbaugh confirmed the starters will not play against Dallas, just like they did not face the Indianapolis Colts in the first preseason exhibition.
