Ravens activate LB Jay Higgins from injured reserve

The Baltimore Ravens activated undrafted rookie linebacker Jay Higgins from injured reserve ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Higgins, 23, signed with the Ravens in May and made the 53-man roster after an impressive preseason showing on defense and special teams. He earned a core special teams role for the regular season until a Week 10 knee injury in Minnesota forced him onto injured reserve. Higgins returned to practice last week and quickly ramped up to full participation; he should be able to play in Green Bay on Saturday night.

Higgins will have plenty of special teams work to take up now that he is healthy. When he went down in early November, his snaps were picked up by fellow UDFA linebacker Chandler Martin, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 14. The Ravens then lost another core special teams contributor (and defensive starter) in Teddye Buchanan to a torn ACL in Week 15. Trenton Simpson has stepped up to fill his spot on defense, but Higgins will be able to reinforce the Ravens’ coverage units upon his return.
