The Chargers starting left tackle has been working off to the side in recent days, including Tuesday’s training camp session in San Diego.
One of the biggest storylines heading into Chargers training camp this year was just how soon the front office and left tackle Rashawn Slater would come together on a new contract extension. That new deal has not come just yet but it hasn’t stopped Slater from being with the team through the first week of camp.
However, Slater has not been on the field with the team in a full capacity for a couple days now as he’s been working off to the side with strength coach Ben Herbert. Now one could have assumed Slater decided to dial back the intensity without a deal, especially with the pads getting put on during Tuesday’s session, but it looks like there actually IS something nagging at the star blocker.
Per head coach Jim Harbaugh, Slater is “working through something physically” and it’s labeled a “minor” injury. That’s both good and bad news. Good because it’s not something much worse, but bad because no one likes to see their star players missing any time at all unless it’s for a rest day.
Here’s to hoping Slater is back in full shortly, but only as much as he needs to be while negotiating that much-deserved contract extension.
