On a loaded roster, which positions stand out most for the Colts?
The off-season gives us the perfect opportunity to do some evaluation on the Indianapolis Colts’ roster and position groups. The Colts have used the off-season to put in a lot of work to improve and upgrade the roster. Now that the majority of the roster is in place it allows us to look at what positions groups on the Colts roster are the strongest and ranking the top 3.
Wide Receiver
The Colts have a wealth of talent at the wide receiver position staring with a true number 1 in Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman has been the epitome of consistent since being drafted by the Colts back in 2020. He’s out up over 4000 yards receiving yards and 18 touchdowns despite having Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Gardner Minshew and Anthony Richardson as his quarterbacks. WR2 is Alec Pierce who had a breakout year last season when he had a career best in yards receiving and touchdowns and ranked first in the NFL in average years per reception at a staggering 22.3. Behind the two starters the Colts have more quality in slot receiver Josh Downs. Downs can into the league as an underdog after being drafted late in the 3rd round. Since coming into the league he has had bs j to back years of over 60 receptions and over 700 yards receiving whilst becoming a clutch receiving option and a favourite target for Colts quarterbacks. AD Mitchell coming off an inconsistent yet intriguing rookie year boosts hope for a breakout year in which he can out together reliable hands to go with his eye popping route running. Ashton Dulin and Anthony Gould round out the group with primary responsibilities on sir Ian teams. Dulin is an elite special teams gunner and Gould will continue to be relied on to provide a spark in the return game. Overall an exciting unit that really just needs a consistent quarterback to elevate them to the next level.
Defensive Line
Arguably one of the deepest position groups in the colts roster. Leading the defensive line unit is defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Buckner is a top defensive tackle in the league boasting elite productivity over multiple seasons, he is the heart of the defensive line and shows up against both the run and in the pass rush. His partner in crime is the Colts big man in the line, nose tackle Grover Stewart. Stewart gives you exactly what you want from a big nose tackle and it’s pure run game dominance. Stewart is a premier run stuffing force, he is still working on a consistent pass rush ability but being able to command double teams due to his size frees up one to one matchups for Buckner.
