Ranking Dallas Cowboys trades based on projected 2025 impact

Which Cowboys trade acquisition do you think will be the most impactful in 2025?

The Dallas Cowboys have become a little trade happy here recently and have acquired a handful of players who they are hoping can make an immediate impact with the team in 2025. Some will have larger roles than others, but the hope is all of them contribute early and often this season. Today, we thought we would attempt to rank them based on how impactful we project each one of them to be this year.

#5 - WR Jonathan Mingo

Trade details: Cowboys receive Mingo, 2025 7th-round pick; Panthers receive 2024 4th-round pick

No surprise here the Jonathan Mingo trade is ranked dead last with all of the other trades the Cowboys have made recently. Mingo is at best WR5 on the depth chart right now after Dallas acquired George Pickens via trade from the Steelers and could very well be fighting for roster spot with the team in 2025. Given the price they paid to acquire him and the players they missed out on in the fourth-round this year, this trade looks worse and worse.

#4 - QB Joe Milton

Trade details: Cowboys receive Milton, 2025 7th-round pick, Patriots receive 2025 5th-round pick

Joe Milton edges out Jonathan Mingo mostly due to the position he plays and the importance he could have if something were to once again cut Dak Prescott's 2025 season short. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, Milton will likely earn the QB2 job to become Prescott's primary backup this season. If thrust into the starting lineup though, his impact could be the difference between success and failure for Dallas in 2025.

#3 - LB Kenneth Murray Jr.

Trade details: Cowboys receive Murray, 2025 7th-round pick, Titans receive 2025 6th-round pick

Who starts and where at linebacker in 2025 for the Cowboys is one of the ultimate mysteries prior to the start of the season. Jack Sanborn will likely start for Matt Eberflus once again after following him from Chicago. Kenneth Murray should also earn a starting job due to his experience and the fact Dallas acquired him via trade. These two outside offseason additions are expected to upgrade the Cowboys LB position in 2025.

#2 - CB Kaiir Elam

Trade details: Cowboys receive Elam, 2025 6th-round pick, Bills receive 2025 6th-round, 2026 7th-round picks

As things stand right now, with the questionable depth beyond DaRon Bland and with the current injuries at the CB position, Kaiir Elam could start for the Cowboys on the outside after being acquired via trade from the Bills. Inconsistency plagued him during his time in Buffalo, but if the former first-round draft pick can find the consistency in Dallas he could be a full-time starter in 2025. If not, he at the very least provides much-needed depth.

#1 - WR George Pickens
