Sean McVay addressed the media after the game and said “It was a bad call by me”, was it a bad play call, or a bad decision in general? I don’t know. Did you trust Joshua Karty to make that field goal in overtime after how spotty (at best) the Rams’ kicking game has been?
If the Rams had kicked a field goal to tie the game, the 49ers still had plenty of time to march down the field and kick a game winning field goal of their own, so again I don’t know that McVay made the right call or not, maybe his process was true, but the result was a failure, and the decision to run with Kyren Williams into the teeth of the 49ers defense on a fourth and one, instead of putting it in the hands of Matthew Stafford, doesn’t seem right either.
I don’t know what to think, I know the Rams lost and I think it was one of the worst coaching games of McVay’s career, it brings into question how much longer L.A. can lean on Williams at running back and this loss 100% shows that the Rams have a problem in their kicking game.
Now, let’s take a breath, the Rams have time to get this right, but this is a hard loss and one of the decisions that McVay and the Rams will lament is, should they have kicked a field goal on fourth and short in overtime? And another fair question is, should the Rams have put the ball in Stafford’s hands instead of Williams’s?
Well, hopefully you found a way to get some sleep after that rough game, and please know you can vent here, comment, this should be a safe space (though I won’t be surprised if some 49ers fans leave some comments for fun).
