Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 1/27/24
What I and many think is the best Sunday in football has come and gone. The football season is played week to week, as opposed to other sports like baseball where a team performs basically every day or every other day, so by nature of the schedule, the NFL season flies by in ways that other sports don’t.
There is one game left now, and that’s the Super Bowl. Another season of football has flown by, and the Los Angeles Rams hung around to the divisional round. They did good. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs have done better.
Please comment on whatever you’d like and have a great day! We have a couple weeks before the big game, and then that’s it. Try to savor this time if you can.
“Stafford, 36, said after the Rams’ season ended that he still feels like he can play at a high level, but the possibility of retirement looms large. He’ll be 37 in February, has already won a Super Bowl and though he’s still playing well, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he chose to retire this offseason.
The Rams can entice him to stay by offering a substantial raise in 2025, but even that might not be enough to keep Stafford on the field if he’s set on calling it a career. There’s also the possibility that if the two sides can’t come to terms on a new deal, Stafford will request a trade and play for another team.”
“In this first round, we are dealing with a scenario where the first overall pick is an edge rusher in Abdul Carter, sparking a domino effect that sees defenders and running backs get selected higher than usual due to teams’ needs versus the available demand.
As a result of Carter going first, offensive tackles became less of a priority unlike the 2024 NFL Draft.”
“Stafford - who is pondering retirement - has two seasons left on his contract, which will earn him a reported $103million. He is due a $4m bonus in mid-March, meaning the quarterback would need to be traded quickly.
‘You don’t want those issues dragging out throughout the offseason and kind of being a theme going into the season,’ Snead said.
‘On trades, that’s one thing, it will take someone calling or us reaching out—that’s the things that are going to be determined down the road here.”
