Rams move on from former sixth-round pick Derion Kendrick

The Los Angeles Rams announced they’ve waived corner Derion Kendrick.

LA drafted Kendrick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia. Cobie Durant—who is battling for a starting job this season—was selected in the same class in round four.

Kendrick started 18 games for the Rams over the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He suffered a knee injury in the early days of training camp and missed all of last year.

While we don’t yet have information on why Los Angeles chose to move on from their former starter now, it at least raises eyebrows considering their rumored interest in Miami Dolphins corner Jalen Ramsey. The Dolphins seem intent on moving Ramsey via trade and were awaiting a post-June 1 deadline for salary cap purposes.

It could be that the decision to move on from Kendrick and a potential Ramsey trade are unrelated, though that would leave LA in a tough spot in the cornerback room.

Durant, Darious Witherspoon, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Emmanuel Forbes are vying for starting positions on the outside in a Ramsey-less world. Cam Lampkin, AJ Green, Josh Wallace, Shaun Jolly, and Charles Woods also hope to make the roster as depth pieces.
