The L.A. Rams stared a rebuilding team in the face on Sunday and Matthew Stafford showed the Saints how far they have to go before they’ll ever contend for the Super Bowl again. Holding a dominant advantage in the time of possession battle, the Rams beat the Saints 34-10 on Sunday afternoon in SoFi Stadium and improved their record to 6-2.
Stafford added four more touchdowns to his league-leading tally and the Rams won the time of possession battle 43:53 to 16:07.
The Rams quarterback now has 21 touchdowns and 2 interceptions for the season and for the first time in a 17-year career might actually be leading the race for MVP. It doesn’t hurt that Stafford had more of his supporting cast back in Week 9 with the returns of Puka Nacua and Rob Havenstein, although Nacua left the game in the second half with a chest injury.
Nacua still had seven catches for 95 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown.
Davante Adams had five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyler Higbee caught the fourth. Rookie Terrance Ferguson had his most productive game of the season, two catches for 54 yards. Kyren Williams carried the ball 25 times for 114 yards and backup Blake Corum got in on the action too, gaining 58 yards.
Stafford finished 24-of-32 for 281 yards and was sacked twice.
Defensively, Braden Fiske had his first sack of the season. It looked like Byron Young would get his 10th sack but was called for roughing the passer, which helped set the Saints up for their only touchdown of the afternoon. Emmanuel Forbes picked off Shough late in the game. In his first NFL start, rookie Tyler Shough ended up going 15-of-24 for 176 yards and a touchdown, plus a late interception. Shough played as well as could have been expected but was no match for a team that has far fewer problems to fix than New Orleans.
At 1-8, the Saints are currently in line for the number one overall pick in the 2026 draft.
