USA Today lists LA as a free agent destination for Bears WR Keenan Allen
Since Cooper Kupp is on his way out of town, the Los Angeles Rams must target a wide receiver this offseason. LA would be wise to make a blockbuster move to spice up the position, and one outlet has a safe, “savvy route runner” in mind for the team in free agency.
USA Today analyst Tyler Dragon pegged the Rams as an intriguing fit for star Bears receiver Keenan Allen.
“Allen will be 33 years old at the start of next season and saw his numbers decline during his first year in Chicago. However, he is still a savvy route runner.
Allen reportedly said he’ll only play in Chicago or Los Angeles next year. A reunion with the Chargers seems unlikely since he and Ladd McConkey both operate primarily out of the slot. The Rams would be intriguing.”
Allen did not have the season the Bears envisioned when the organization traded for him in March 2024. After a stellar 11-year career with the Chargers in which he became only the second player in franchise history to amass over 10,000 receiving yards, Allen finished his first season in Chicago with 70 receptions for 744 yards and 7 touchdowns in 15 starts.
Nothing went as planned in the Windy City for a Bears team that finished 5-12 in Caleb Williams’ rookie campaign. The team was expected to be a major player in the NFC playoff picture, but I’m sure we all know what happens when you give Bears fans hope.
Chicago struggled mightily with a pitiful offense around Williams, mainly attributed to coaching since Allen appeared to still be dangerous after the catch.
Should Da Bears part ways with Allen after one season, LA would likely get him cheap. However, this is one move the Rams should pass on since the veteran wideout has been unable to stay healthy throughout his career. The California product has played in at least 16 games just four times in his career, and his availability will only get worse the deeper he gets into his 30s.
Plus, LA is moving on from Kupp who is only two years younger. It would be illogical for the Rams to replace Kupp with an older player. Los Angeles needs to get younger at the position and must find the perfect complement to grow with Puka Nacua.
If this was the Keenan Allen from four years ago, I’d say why the heck not? While the Rams wouldn’t need much to acquire him, this isn’t a move that makes sense for an LA team that’s seemingly retooling its offense ahead of the 2025 campaign.
