According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the Los Angeles Rams have given quarterback Matthew Stafford permission to speak to other teams about a trade. Meanwhile, the Rams plan to continue to try and work out a new contract with Stafford.

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a fresh start at quarterback for a second straight season, they could try to work a trade for the two-time pro bowler and former comeback player of the year.

Stafford is 37 years old and coming off of a season where he went 10-6 as a starter, and threw for 3,762 yards with 20 touchdowns to eight interceptions. The Rams went through a ton of injuries on offense that limited the entire passing offense.

As of now, the Steelers have to decide between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields if they want to keep one of their starting quarterbacks from last season. Should they choose to let both of them leave or can’t come to terms with either, the Steelers will have to find a veteran to replace them even if it is only for a single season. Stafford compared to a guy like Aaron Rodgers or Sam Darnold seems like a slam dunk if the price is right.
