The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be included in rumors regarding a new head coach. If they lose to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, they will have successfully blown a three-game lead in the AFC North and missed the postseason, making it nine years since their last playoff win.

In light of that possibility, many upcoming assistant coaches who are in line for potential head coaching jobs have been connected to the Steelers – one of which is Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, per https://www.si.com/nfl/what-were-hearing-biggest-nfl-coaching-decisions-ahead-of-week-18Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

“The Steelers, Ravens and Bills have generated conversation in recent weeks,” Breer writes. “Is there any reality to it? I don’t think these would be firings. But there is some thought that Mike Tomlin could look at a reset, with the Pittsburgh roster potentially going through one soon too, and take a year or two in TV before returning to the sideline. And interestingly enough, Shula’s name has been connected to the Steelers, in case there is an opening.”

The Rams’ defense has been tremendous in 2025. They rank ninth in the league in defensive EPA per play, eighth in points per game, and have allowed the fifth-fewest touchdowns per game. Should the Steelers want to start anew, hiring Shula and potentially landing multiple Sean McVay offensive assistants could be the route they opt to go.
