Rams exec James Gladstone is finalist for Jaguars GM job
The last time that a team hired a GM out of the Rams front office, that person immediately traded Matthew Stafford to L.A. for Jared Goff and two first round picks. Could history possibly repeat itself?
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced three finalists for their open general manager position, including Rams exec James Gladstone. If Gladstone gets the job, why wouldn’t Les Snead try to take advantage of that?
Trevor Lawrence has been the subject of trade rumors recently and if Gladstone gets the Jacksonville job, you can bet that people will bring up the fact that Brad Holmes traded Stafford to Snead once upon a time.
Could Snead and Gladstone work out a deal that lands Lawrence in L.A.? That would make logical sense, but it would be extremely difficult to pull off because of Lawrence’s contract.
The ink isn’t even dry on the 5-year, $275 million deal that Lawrence signed last summer and trading Lawrence before June 1 leaves a massive $100 million dead cap hit in Jacksonville. Trading him after that deadline means that the Jags paid him a $35 million option bonus (which he’s due every year until 2028) and didn’t even get any draft picks in 2025.
But even without Lawrence involved, the Jaguars and Rams could definitely open up a trading pipeline if Jacksonville decides to go with Gladstone.
Could it mean Cooper Kupp going to the Jaguars?
Or the Rams picking up a different player from Jacksonville?
We know that Snead saw Brad Holmes as an opportunity to improve the Rams. Will he see the same with Gladstone?
