Las Vegas Raiders star defensive tackle Adam Butler pleaded for Christian Wilkins to “get help” after he was cut in a stunning roster move.

Christian Wilkins was released by the Raiders last Thursday, just one year after signing a mammoth four-year deal in free agency worth $110 million. The Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million guaranteed on Wilkins’ deal following a disagreement on how he rehabbed a foot injury, though the NFLPA has filed a grievance on his behalf.

Since the roster move, some new details have emerged behind the Raiders’ decision to move on from the star defensive tackle. Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” yesterday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that a teammate “took offense to” an instance where Wilkins “playfully” kissed him on the head.

"From speaking to people inside the Raiders locker room…

They say that Christian Wilkins playfully went to kiss a teammate on the top of his head..

They say that player took offense to it and that's what everybody has been dancing around"@AdamSchefter #PMSLive https://t.co/das6W3HesB pic.twitter.com/MGfjATaiNh

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Adam Butler was asked by KTNV’s Nick Walters about the situation with Christian Wilkins. Butler wouldn’t discuss the incident, but pleaded with Wilkins and those struggling mentally to seek help if they need it:

“Whatever you’re going through as a person – athlete, non-athlete – whatever your struggle is, you got something going on in life, talk to somebody. Get some therapy…Somebody out there in this world full of billions of people is willing to listen.

Willing to listen, hear you out, and work through whatever you need to work through. Don’t make any hasty decisions, get help.”

Wilkins signed the lucrative deal with the Raiders after a career year with the Miami Dolphins, where he logged nine sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. The Raiders had hoped that a pass rush duo of Wilkins and Maxx Crosby would elevate their defense to a higher level, but the former was limited to five games before suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Over his first six NFL seasons, Wilkins has 22.5 sacks, 19 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

Christian Wilkins Will Get Another Opportunity From An NFL Team Soon

The reality is that no matter what baggage an NFL player may carry, he’ll always get an opportunity as long as his talent level is adequate. Wilkins was one of the NFL’s top defensive tackles during his run in Miami, so it’s really only a matter of time until somebody else signs him...
