Jerry Jones knows that he messed up with Micah Parsons. He will not outright admit it, but he is doing so with his actions. The Dallas Cowboys reportedly contacted the Las Vegas Raiders regarding a potential trade for star edge-rusher Maxx Crosby.
The Cowboys tentatively reached out on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Trey Wingo. They did not appear to send an offer, but rather poked around to see what the price tag would be.
Crosby just signed a record extension in the offseason that briefly made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Despite a slight statistical regression, the Raiders gave him a three-year, $106.5 million extension in the offseason.
Wingo pointed out that Crosby’s extension ideally keeps him locked in with the Raiders, but Las Vegas is one of the few teams in a worse position than that of the Cowboys. The 28-year-old has never directly requested a trade, but there have been reports of his previous frustration with the team’s lack of success.
Crosby also suffered a minor knee injury in Week 7, but it was reportedly just a precaution. The Raiders’ 2025 season went from bad to worse with a 31-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that was hardly competitive for a single second.
Dallas, of course, lost Parsons in the offseason when it traded him to the Green Bay Packers following months of turmoil. They received defensive tackle Kenny Clark, a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick.
Since trading Parsons, the Cowboys’ defense has arguably been the worst in the league. Retaining Parsons would not have solved all their issues, but losing him caused Dallas to drop from being one of the best pass-rushing units in the league to mediocre at best. They have 15 sacks through seven games, ranking near the middle of the pack.
The 2025 Cowboys are a complete tale of two sides. While their offense ranks near the top of the league, their defense is in the bottom five in nearly all categories. The unfortunate balance reflects on Dallas’ record, which sits at 3-3-1 ahead of Week 8.
The Cowboys are in no position to blow it up, but Jones is clearly seeking necessary changes. They have historically been active at the trade deadline, most recently acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in 2024.
