Former Chargers’ draft pick will try to make Raiders’ 53-man roster

The Las Vegas Raiders signed safety JT Woods as a free agent recently.

Let’s take a closer look at Woods:

Size:

6-2, 193 pounds.

NFL experience:

Woods played 10 games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 after he was a third-round draft pick (No. 79 overall and was taken by Tom Telesco, who spent 2024 as the Raiders’ general manager) and he started one game as a rookie. He played three games for the Chargers in 2023 and hasn’t played since.

College:

He went to Baylor.

How he will fit in with Raiders:

Woods, who is 25, is a longshot to make the Raiders’ 53-man roster next month. There are several other young safeties trying to make the roster, including Chris Smith, Thomas Harper and Trey Taylor. Woods hasn’t played in the NFL in two years and will have to have a great training camp and preseason to make the roster. The practice squad may be his best bet.
