Veteran quarterback goes back with Las Vegas offensive coordinator

This is dot-connecting season in the NFL.

And there is plenty of that to do these days when it comes to the Las Vegas Raiders as they begin a new regime.

Much of the early offseason speculation has been focused on potential quarterbacks who could interest the team.

So, it’s not been a surprise that there are rumblings that the Raiders could be interested in signing veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota as a free agent after backing up NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels with the Washington Commanders.

Why Mariota?

Chip Kelly.

Kelly recruited Mariota to Oregon and he starred under the coach in 2012 before Kelly bolted to the NFL. Kelly later reportedly tired to trade for Mariota.

Now, with Kelly returning to the NFL as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator and Mariota being a free agent, the dot connecting I expected.

Mariota, who was a backup for the Raiders in 2020-21, is a backup. He has a total of 13 stats in th3 past five seasons (all in 2022 with Atlanta). He will turn 32 during the season.

If Kelly helps brings him back to Las Vegas, it would likely be as a backup or as part of a training-camp competition.

What are your thoughts on Kelly and Mariota reuniting in Las Vegas?
