Starting quarterback missed Week 15 with knee injury
Since there were not setbacks this week, Aidan O’Connell, as expected, is on course to start at quarterback Sunday when the Las Vegas Raiders host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kickoff is set for 1:25 p.m. PT.
Las Vegas coach Antonio Pierce said Friday that O’Connell “should be good to go” for Sunday’s game between the 2-12 Raiders and 3-11 Jaguars. This was been the expectation all week.
Tuesday, Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce told reporters that starting quarterback Aidan O’Connell is “trending upward” toward playing Sunday against the 3-11 Jacksonville Jaguars at Allegiant Stadium (kickoff is set for 1:25 p.m. PT) for the 2-12 Raiders.
That upward trend continued Wednesday and Thursday when O’Connell was on the practice field as the Raiders started their on-field preparations for the game. It was O’Connell’s first practice since he suffered a bone bruise at Tampa Bay 10 days ago.
He worked out prior to the 15-9 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night and was the Raiders’ emergency quarterback, indicating he was close to being ready. Backup Desmond Ridder played in the game.
Meanwhile, Pierce said guard Jordan Meredith is doubtful to play because of an ankle injury that has kept him out of practice. That means rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson is poised to move abck to guard and Andre James will play center.
Powers-Johnson has started the past six games at center. James was hurt then the Raiders decided to go with the Powers-Johnson-Meredith combination, making James a backup. Now, he is expected to play Sunday.
The Raiders will release an injury report Friday afternoon and this post will be updated.
