This time of year, there’s always optimism surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders. However, that has quickly turned into disappointment over the last 20 or so years. But it feels a little different heading into the 2025 regular season.
Pete Carroll steps in as the Raiders’ head coach after leading the Seattle Seahawks to 10 playoff appearances in 14 years, including winning the Super Bowl during the 2013 campaign. Carroll also managed to earn two postseason berths in three seasons while leading the New England Patriots, and had a couple of National Championship squads at USC.
Still, our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook aren’t giving Las Vegas much love when it comes to clinching one of the AFC’s seven playoff spots.
Per FanDuel, the Raiders have the sixth-longest odds to make the playoffs as a +320 bet, sandwiched between the Carolina Panthers (+260) and Tennessee Titans (+390). Only the Titans, New York Jets (+490), New York Giants (+710), New Orleans Saints (+820) and Cleveland Browns (+880) have worse odds. Conversely, the Silver and Black have he sixth-highest odds to miss the playoffs at -430.
Granted, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Carroll is tasked with turning around a team that went just 4-13 last season and a franchise that has earned just two postseason berths since 2003. The head coach did inherit a 5-11 squad in Seattle and managed to win the division in year one. But that was a down year for the NFC West as the Seahawks took home the crown with just a 7-9 record, and the AFC West is expected to be strong in 2025, again.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers are reigning playoff teams and all are expected to be in the tournament again this year, per FanDuel’s odds. The Chiefs (-370) have the fifth-best odds to make the postseason, the Broncos (-130) come in at No. 12 and the Chargers (-108) are 14th. That creates an uphill battle for the Raiders’ playoff hopes, especially considering they went 0-6 in the division a year ago.
But if you’re a big believer in Carroll and the Silver and Black’s outlook for the upcoming campaign, you could be in line to make some money by placing a wager on Las Vegas. Additionally, FanDuel has an upcoming promotion for future bets to help improve your potential earnings.
