Raiders go under center to spark the running game

The Las Vegas Raiders had a disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears, but they left the game with a positive takeaway. The struggles of the running game were fixed with the team having 240 yards rushing last Sunday.

Besides the return of Jackson Powers-Johnson to the Raiders’ offensive line, a big change was moving under center. Chip Kelly has employed a spread offense, similar to the college-style offense, for the first three games, as I previously wrote about. A change was needed to help the run game, and it worked out tremendously. It should be a focus from now on, with the play-action game being set up because of the adjustment.

With the quarterback under center, it helped Ashton Jeanty flourish, which led to big-time stats overall from the whole rushing game.

The 8.1 YPC from under center should help the team focus on this strategy in the future. Kolton Miller’s injury, of course, will be a factor in the run game. However, if Jeanty can find ways to be effective, the offense can create explosive plays by running the football.
