Safety is first player addressed by new regime

The Las Vegas Raiders new front office, led by general manager John Spytek, have made their first major in-house decision by extending the contract of safety Isaiah Pola-Mao.

He was primed to be a restricted free agent was very likely to remain with the team. Yet, the Raiders felt a need to give him a two-year contract. NFL Media reported it is worth a total of up to $8.45 million.

Pola-Mao started most of the season after Marcus Epps was lost with a knee injury. Epps is an unrestricted free agent and the Raiders’ decision to extend Pola-Mao may be an indication they are going to let Epps test the open market. Fellow safety Tre’von Moehrig is also one of several free agents on the Raiders’ defensive side of the ball.

Pola-Mao, who signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022, had all of his 14 career starts in 2024 and now he is in position to show he belongs in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
