The Las Vegas Raiders released their final injury report ahead of the Week 4 contest against the Chicago Bears and ruled tight end Michael Mayer out.
This was somewhat expected after Mayer left last week’s game against the Washington Commanders with a concussion. He didn’t practice all week and has yet to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Third-string tight end Ian Thomas filled in when Mayer went down in Washington. This Sunday, Thomas will likely take over the blocking role within the position group, as 16 of his 19 offensive snaps came as a blocker last week, according to Pro Football Focus.
That shouldn’t change much for second-year pro Brock Bowers, the Raiders’ top tight end and No. 1 option in the passing game. However, Bowers is banged up as well, suffering a knee sprain in the season opener against the New England Patriots. He’s been wearing a brace since then and only has 76 receiving yards in the last two weeks combined after logging 103 yards in New England. Bowers was listed on the injury report but was a full participant in practice all week.
Las Vegas also has tight ends Albert Okwuegbunam and Carter Runyon on the practice squad if the coaching staff wants to call someone up to fill in for Mayer for the Bears matchup.
As for the rest of the injury report, safety Jeremy Chinn (pectoral) was limited on Wednesday, the first practice of the week, but has been a full participant over the last two days. Cornerback Decamerion Richardson, who missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury, was limited on Wednesday and Thursday but was a full go on Friday. Richardson’s game status is officially listed as questionable.
The Raiders will take on the Bears this Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PST, and the game will air on CBS (check your local listings).
