His former offensive coordinator is in Las Vegas

We all know Pete Carroll’s connection to Russell Wilson.

And we’re familiar with Chip Kelly’s history with Marcus Mariota and Will Howard.

But there’s another 2025 quarterback option for the Las Vegas Raiders who has deep ties to the team’s staff

Aaron Rodgers and Joe Philbin where together with the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons in two different stints.

It was announced this week that Carroll has retained Philbin for Antonio Pierce’s staff as a senior offensive assistant. Meanwhile, Thursday, the New York Jets confirm a report that they are moving away from Rodgers.

Thus, Rodgers, 41, will soon be a free agent. The Raiders, with a pressing need for a quarterback could be a possibility.

How possible is this pairing?

Well, if Wilson, Mariota and Howard are considered possibilities because of connections to the Raiders’ staff, Rodgers should fall into the same category.

Philbin was the Packers’ tight ends coach in 2005 when Rodgers was drafted. He then became the offensive line coach and was the Packers’ offensive coordinator from 2007-11 and led Green Bay’s offense during Rodgers’ first four seasons as a starter,

Philbin re-join Green Bay’s staff in 2018 as the offensive coordinator and finished the season as the interim head coach. So, he and Rodgers have a long history together.

This doesn’t mean a Rodgers-Raiders marriage will likely happen. The decision of course, will be made above Philbin’s pay grade, but if he gives a big recommendation, it could spark a Rodgers’ pursuit by Las Vegas.
