The gameday discussion over on The FEED is continuing this Sunday for the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 5 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. The focus this week is on Raiders quarterback Geno Smith versus Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

It’s no secret that Smith needs to play better and has cost Las Vegas a couple of games already this season, leading the NFL with seven interceptions. A big reason for his turnovers is that he’s struggling to adjust when the defense rotates or disguises coverages post-snap, which former Raiders linebacker and current analyst Kirk Morrison highlighted in the breakdown below.

To get even more specific, Smith has had issues when safeties are lined up at the middle linebacker spot in Tampa 2 coverage. That accounted for one of his interceptions against the Los Angeles Chargers — the one where Derwin James Jr. tipped the ball and Donte Jackson picked it off in the red zone — and the first two against the Bears to Kevin Byard.

Moving forward, the 13-year veteran quarterback can expect to see more exotic looks from opposing defenses, where the picture changes post-snap, especially this Sunday. Anarumo was known for doing just that during his tenure as the Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive coordinator from 2019 to 2024, and he has carried over the same philosophy during his first year in Indianapolis.

So, we will be focusing on the chess match between the quarterback and defensive play-caller on The FEED this Sunday. Hopefully, Smith adjusts, and the discussion will center on how he has improved from last week. The Raiders are running out of time as their playoff hopes are already thin at 1-3, meaning they can’t afford many more missteps from the man behind center.

The Raiders and Colts will kick off at 10:00 a.m. PST on Fox (check your local listings). Head over to The FEED if you’re interested in joining this live conversation. I look forward to talkin’ some ball with y’all!
