Everything you need to know to watch Kansas City play Las Vegas on Friday afternoon.

The Game

In the NFL’s Week 13, the Kansas City Chiefs are hosting the Las Vegas Raiders on GEHA Field in Arrowhead Stadium for the league’s “Black Friday” game for 2024. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) on Amazon Prime, KSHB (NBC/41-Kansas City) and KTNV (ABC/13-Las Vegas).

This will be only the eighth time the Kansas City franchise has ever played a Friday game. Six of the previous games were American Football League matchups from the 1960s, when the upstart league was experimenting with Friday night games. Two of those matchups were against the Raiders — then based in Oakland, California — while the rest were road games played against the Patriots at Boston’s Nickerson Field and Fenway Park.

But the Chiefs’ most recent Friday game was in 2005, when a Sunday matchup against the Miami Dolphins was hastily moved up before Hurricane Wilma came ashore in Florida. After being informed of the schedule change only the day before, the team flew to Fort Lauderdale on Friday morning, took a bus to Miami and played the Dolphins that night — winning 30-20 as rain poured down on about 40,000 fans.

In contrast, this game has been on the schedule since May. “Black Friday” games now are expected to be a regular feature of each NFL season.

It should be a dogfight. The (10-1) Chiefs and (2-9) Raiders have been bitter division foes since the AFL was formed in 1960. Before head coach Andy Reid took over the team in 2013, the Chiefs led the all-time series 53-50-2. Since then, Kansas City has dominated its AFC West rival 19-4. But the Chiefs’ two most recent losses to the Raiders have been at home: 2020’s 40-32 defeat and the 20-14 loss on Christmas Day of last year. That was Kansas City’s final defeat before a franchise-record 15-game winning streak, including Super Bowl LVIII and its 27-20 victory over Las Vegas in Week 8.

Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce threw down the gauntlet on Wednesday.

“Let’s call a spade a spade: [it’s] the best team in football against the worst team in football,” he told reporters, per NFL.com. “Let’s change the narrative. Let’s go out there and make it a dogfight. Let’s make it ugly. Let’s make it scrappy.

“It’s Black Friday. Let’s create a little chaos. Let’s get back to Raider football — and have some fun and some personality. Let it loose.”

But for the Chiefs, it will be business as usual.

“We sure look forward to the challenge of playing the Raiders,” said Reid on Wednesday. “[They’re a] good football team. [They’re] playing confident football on really both sides of the ball. Now, they’ve had a couple [of] changes in there. We’ll have to adjust to that — but again, our guys had a good week of practice. We know when the Raiders and the Chiefs get together,...
