The Las Vegas Raiders are preparing for the Los Angeles Chargers to close out Week 2. The teams will clash on Monday Night Football with each side looking to gain added momentum. Raiders fans have been waiting for an update on the status of tight end Brock Bowers. Ahead of this game, we have received the official update.
Bowers has been dealing with a knee issue in the lead-up to this game. There was some concern that he may not be able to take the field against the Chargers. However, the official update is positive. Bowers is active for Monday Night Football, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Bowers did play against the New England Patriots in Week 1. And he played rather well. He caught five passes for 103 yards against the Patriots last week. Vegas went on to win the opening contest of the season by a final score of 20-13.
However, Bowers did not practice during the week due to an issue with his knee. He did participate in practice on Saturday, though it was in a limited capacity. His limited participation provided some hope that he would be fine to play against Los Angeles.
It’s unclear how involved Bowers will be in this game. He is a major part of the Vegas offense, however. Last season, he set NFL rookie records with 112 catches and 1194 receiving yards while also scoring five touchdowns.
If Bowers is on a snap count, look for former second-round pick Michael Mayer to carry the load. Mayer, 24, is Bowers’ deputy at the tight end position. He has not been a major receiving threat to this point in his career. But he could be called upon on Monday night in Los Angeles.
The Raiders are looking to improve to 2-0 on the year. However, they are taking on a Chargers team that handed the Kansas City Chiefs an opening-week loss in Brazil. It will certainly be interesting to see what impact Bowers can have on the game when he’s on the field.
