Here are some live updates from the Las Vegas Raiders home game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday:
First quarter
The Bears got the ball first and the Raiders forced a three-and-out as defensive tackle Thomas Booker continued to make plays.
On their first drive, the Raiders moved the ball with a 9-yard pass from Geno Smith t0 Jakobi Meyers and a 12-yard run by Ashton Jeanty. But on third and long, Smith was intercepted and the Bears returned the ball to the Las Vegas 24. It was a bad decision and bad throw by Smith. It was his first pick of the young season.
The Raiders’ defense, led by a pass deflection by star defensive end Maxx Crosby, forced the Bears to settle for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 9:04 to go in the quarter.
The Raiders went for it on fourth and 1 deep in their own territory and it was badly blown up as the offensive line was badly beaten and Jeanty was hit and fumbled and the Bears recovered the ball inside the Raiders’ 20. It’s the first time in six years that the Raiders committed turnovers on their first two possessions.
However, disaster was averted when Maxx Crosby, who has had a great start to the game, caught an interception on his own tipped pass and took it the Raiders’ 35. It was the star’s first interception of his career. The Raiders have five tipped balls already and are keeping the team in the game on defense.
The Raiders’ offense cashed in on Crosby’s big play and went down the field, culminating with a 8-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Jeanty to take a 7-3 lead with eight seconds to go in the first quarter.
This is the Raiders’ first lead this season after the first quarter.
Second quarter:
The Bears got into scoring position, but two big plays by Maxx Crosby and Tyree Wilson forced a punt. Crosby is playing his brains out, folks.
But Smith was picked off once again by Bears’ defensive back Kevin Byard and the Bears got the ball at the Raider’s 24. That’s the third Raiders’ turnover deep in their territory. Smith has thrown five of his six interceptions at home.
The Las Vegas defense held again as the Bears had to settle for a field goal to cut the Raiders’ lead to 7-6 with 5:22 to go in the half. The Bears got the ball inside the Raiders’ 25 on three turnovers have just six points.
Chargers 34, Raiders 20.
