Radio Host Blasts Steelers Plan at QB: ‘I Genuinely Have No Idea What They’re Doing’

It’s late May and the Pittsburgh Steelers still don’t have an answer on their quarterback situation for the 2025 season. The franchise continues to wait on Aaron Rodgers decision, which has been dragging along for over two months.

The Steelers plan at the game’s most important position has Kelvin Washington of the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio genuinely confused. It certainly is very un-Steelers-like.

“I’m blown away that an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have been one of the blue bloods, a historically well-run organization, would be this desperate for one in particular person who is 41 years old, best days behind him, who seems noncommittal,” Washington said. “They’re acting more like they’re not the Pittsburgh Steelers and more like the (Jaguars), or the Panthers, or the Raiders, making a desperate move. I’m not even knocking him, he played pretty well. But if you’re going off pretty well, Russell Wilson played pretty well and he’s four or five years younger. I genuinely have no idea what they’re doing.”

Rodgers appears to be in no rush, as he spent over three hours on Joe Rogan’s podcast on Wednesday. The two discussed a wide-range of topics, but nothing football-related.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas/Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who has ties to Mike Tomlin, is also perplexed by the Steelers plan at QB.

“They got one quarterback on the roster,” Gruden said on the Pardon My Take podcast prior to the 2025 NFL Draft. “I don’t know what they’re doing. Maybe Aaron Rodgers, like he’s going to solve all their problems. It sounds great. But two years ago, he was out for the year and last year, I think he had his hands on the ball inside the two-minute drill five times and didn’t get it done… he’s not in camp right now. You got to learn the offense, build some camaraderie with your team. I just don’t know what Pittsburgh is doing at quarterback.”

Rodgers biographer Ian O’Connor believes the four-time league MVP will sign with the Steelers very soon.

“Talking to a couple of people close to Aaron, I have a sense of what it might be,” O’Connor said on 93.7 the Fan. “I’m not comfortable reporting it right now, but I don’t think it would prevent him from playing football with the Steelers… I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he’s told (the Steelers), ‘Listen I’m gonna play for you. I just don’t want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all.’ I think that’s where he is.”

After a tumultuous two-year tenure with the New York Jets, O’Connor believes Pittsburgh is the “perfect place” for Rodgers to end his career.

“He knows it was an embarrassment in New York largely, and [he’s the face of that...
